Elvis, bird poo, and H&L's wedding?
The first time Mark told me he liked me was when he invited me to Hayden (his brother) and Laura's wedding. I was thrilled, of course, and had a fabulous time. There were so many memorable moments that day, including when Mark asked me to slow dance for the first time. Awww.... The song was "Fools Rush In" by Elvis. We danced together and sang along...I felt like a fairytale princess. And really, that's how I've felt with Mark every day since then.
Several weeks later I was at work and had that song in my head. I was singing it all day for some reason, and it reminded me of that wonderful dance we had together. After work, I went to Mark's apartment. My birthday was coming up, and on a CD, he had written an invitation to go out to dinner with him to celebrate my birthday. He wouldn't tell me what was on the CD. As he was walking me out to my car (which he always does :) I thought about the song that had been in my head all day. "Honey, do you remember the first song we slow-danced to? 'Fools Rush In'?" He had forgotten all about that. Of course, he remembered dancing with me at the wedding, but didn't remember slow-dancing to Elvis.
He kissed me goodbye and I got in my car to drive off. I put in my CD, and guess what the first song was? Of course, it was 'Fools Rush In'. I was stunned!! I got out of the car, flabbergasted, and asked him again, "You didn't remember that song?" My honey had no clue about the song. He told me he had found it and thought it was the perfect song for us, and that's why he put it on the CD . . . 10 versions of it!!!! We were both stunned and thrilled. Of course, by this time in our relationship, magical things like this were happening every day with us. That's why the last song on the CD is the "Oh, Oh It's Magic."
We were standing on the grass next to my car, both thrilled and talking about how amazing it was and how it explained why the song was in my head all day. . . . . when I felt something plop onto my head. I said, "Oh my gosh, honey, I think a bird just pooped on my head!" I reached my hand up to touch my hair, and sure enough, I felt bird poop. That's right, folks, I was standing under a tree having a romantic and heartfelt moment with my honey and a bird pooped on my head! It was hilarious. We both were laughing so hard, we were crying (that is also a common occurrence).
When I got to my Mom's house that evening, my family was visiting from England and were thrilled when I told them I'd been pooped on. In England, it's a sign of good luck!!!
Months later, Mark gave me a music box that played "Fools Rush In". He bought it for me the day he made the CD. He'd been looking all week for a music box, had been to several stores, and none of them seemed right. Then, he found a beautiful wooden one that played "Fools Rush In" and decided it was perfect. He didn't know if I knew the song, though, and that's what led him to make the CD with 10 versions of it....so when he gave me the music box, I would know the song. I didn't find that out until he gave me the music box on one of our anniversaries. It made the wedding-Elvis-poop story even more magical.

Cosmo's Day Out
Today, Mark and I took kitty Cosmo on an exploration! She is an indoor cat who never attempts to venture outside the door (even at our encouragement....hehe). The weather is so beautiful today that we decided to give her a taste of the outdoors. I grabbed the blanket, Mark grabbed Cosmo, and we went downstairs (and down more stairs and down even more stairs....we're on the 3rd floor) to the pool/picturesque garden area. I laid out the blanket and we all plopped down.
Kitty immediately hid behind the barrier of my legs. Several times, she poked her head out a bit to look around but stayed down for the most part. The few steps she took (usually to get even more hidden) were more like kitty-crawls. Her body stayed plastered low to the ground while her front legs pulled her a few inches forward (like a snail). Mark and I had a great time. It was perfect weather!
At first, the blanket was in a nice sunny spot, but Cosmo's fur began to feel very hot, so we picked up Cos & the blanket and moved to the shade. Well, then we were too cold. Picked up Cos & the blanket and moved back into the sun. She must have wondered what was going on at some point when we kept moving her back and forth, especially when all she wanted to do was hide behind our bodies.
All in all, despite her appearing somewhat petrified, we think her first experience in the great outdoors was a success, and we plan to take her out more often.
Love,
Melanie

The Mavericks Game
We went to the Mavericks game this week! It was so much fun! The best part is that someone else paid for our tickets! (We're great manifesters). We decide to add to the adventure (every outing turns into an adventure) by taking the DART train. By the time we came up with that idea, we needed to book it (leave very quickly) to get to Mockingbird Station in time. When we parked at the station, we had two minutes until the train would leave. Mark grabbed my hand, and practically dragged me across streets and parking lots, hopped over medians, and ran as fast as we could to get to the train on time. Mark quickly got our tickets while I checked the route and made sure we were getting on the right train. Right as the machine gave us our tickets, our train pulled up. We had to run down 2 flights of escalator steps to get to it, and the beeps were going off right as we got there to say the train was about to leave. We made it just in time!
The game was awesome! The reason we went to it was that the instructors at Arthur Murray ballroom dance studio were doing a routine during 1/2 time. For those who don't know, I'm in the last few weeks of my training to be an instructor there (one of my dream jobs). We had a great view of the game, and it was neck & neck between the Mavs and the Spurs the entire game. Mavs won! As we were leaving the arena, Mark leaped like a tree frog (his input) and snatched a mini basketball that was being thrown into the crowd. I saw it coming toward us, and the next thing I know, the ball disappears! I kept asking, "Where did it go?" (talking to myself). I turned around, and there was my humble man, holding it out for me to see. He was so nonchalant about it too. If I'd caught it, I would have screamed, "I got it! I GOT IT! Me! Me! Me! Me! I'm so awesome!!!" We're different in that way :)
I would say that DART is definitely the way to go if you're going to the American Airlines center. We were dropped off right at the entrance. When we left the stadium, we didn't have to wait 30 minutes in a crowded parking lot. However, I will say that the train was PACKED with rambunctious, sweaty, loud, and slightly intoxicated young men. Thems the breaks ;-D Actually, only one was a constant loud talker. He was a Spurs fan, so to save his pride (?) he kept saying teasing remarks about the Mavs. When that got old, he started making comments about the Cowboys. It was all in fun though.
While we were on the train, packed with people sitting and standing all around us, I started wondering if the air was recirculated or if the vents brought air from the outside. Then I started thinking about the various airborne diseases I learned about in microbiology class. I started holding my breath and only taking slow breaths through a tiny opening in my lips when I had to breathe. I thought maybe if I kept my lips close together, anything I didn't want to breathe in would stick to my lips or face instead of going into my lungs (still not a pleasant thought). Actually, I should have breathed through my nose, now that I think about it, and take advantage of the mucus membranes. Doh! But of course, I also know that my mind has more to do with whether I am sick or healthy, and I choose great health.
(imagine there's a compelling segue here)
What do bird poop, Elvis, and Hayden & Laura's wedding have in common? Find out in our next blog!!!!! (oh, the suspense!!)
