Elvis, bird poo, and H&L's wedding?

Here's the answer to the cliffhanger ending of the first blog (What do bird poop, Elvis, and Hayden & Laura's wedding have in common?). I know you've all ("all" meaning the 2 people who read this blog) been holding your breath, so here's the story.

The first time Mark told me he liked me was when he invited me to Hayden (his brother) and Laura's wedding. I was thrilled, of course, and had a fabulous time. There were so many memorable moments that day, including when Mark asked me to slow dance for the first time. Awww.... The song was "Fools Rush In" by Elvis. We danced together and sang along...I felt like a fairytale princess. And really, that's how I've felt with Mark every day since then.

Several weeks later I was at work and had that song in my head. I was singing it all day for some reason, and it reminded me of that wonderful dance we had together. After work, I went to Mark's apartment. My birthday was coming up, and on a CD, he had written an invitation to go out to dinner with him to celebrate my birthday. He wouldn't tell me what was on the CD. As he was walking me out to my car (which he always does :) I thought about the song that had been in my head all day. "Honey, do you remember the first song we slow-danced to? 'Fools Rush In'?" He had forgotten all about that. Of course, he remembered dancing with me at the wedding, but didn't remember slow-dancing to Elvis.

He kissed me goodbye and I got in my car to drive off. I put in my CD, and guess what the first song was? Of course, it was 'Fools Rush In'. I was stunned!! I got out of the car, flabbergasted, and asked him again, "You didn't remember that song?" My honey had no clue about the song. He told me he had found it and thought it was the perfect song for us, and that's why he put it on the CD . . . 10 versions of it!!!! We were both stunned and thrilled. Of course, by this time in our relationship, magical things like this were happening every day with us. That's why the last song on the CD is the "Oh, Oh It's Magic."

We were standing on the grass next to my car, both thrilled and talking about how amazing it was and how it explained why the song was in my head all day. . . . . when I felt something plop onto my head. I said, "Oh my gosh, honey, I think a bird just pooped on my head!" I reached my hand up to touch my hair, and sure enough, I felt bird poop. That's right, folks, I was standing under a tree having a romantic and heartfelt moment with my honey and a bird pooped on my head! It was hilarious. We both were laughing so hard, we were crying (that is also a common occurrence).

When I got to my Mom's house that evening, my family was visiting from England and were thrilled when I told them I'd been pooped on. In England, it's a sign of good luck!!!

Months later, Mark gave me a music box that played "Fools Rush In". He bought it for me the day he made the CD. He'd been looking all week for a music box, had been to several stores, and none of them seemed right. Then, he found a beautiful wooden one that played "Fools Rush In" and decided it was perfect. He didn't know if I knew the song, though, and that's what led him to make the CD with 10 versions of it....so when he gave me the music box, I would know the song. I didn't find that out until he gave me the music box on one of our anniversaries. It made the wedding-Elvis-poop story even more magical.

Love,

Melanie
